Transverse Spin Physics at Hermes

HERMES has measured azimuthal single-spin asymmetries of charged pions produced in deep-inelastic scattering of positrons on a transversely polarised hydrogen target. The presented azimuthal moments provide access to two yet unknown quark distribution functions, the transversity distribution function δq and the Sivers function f ⊥ 1T .

Transverse Spin Physics at Hermes

Single–spin asymmetries in semi–inclusive pion production are measured by the HERMES experiment for the first time, with a transversely polarised hydrogen target. Two different sine–dependencies are extracted which can be related to the quark distributions transversity h1(x) and the Sivers function f ⊥ 1T (x).

New Ideas for Transverse Spin Asymmetries in Inclusive Reactions

sometimes also denoted by ATT . Clearly, it is legitimate to ask why these spin observables are important at high energy and what is the appropriate kinematic region xF , pT , where they should be best investigated, both theoretically and experimentally. For the SSA in pp → πX , there are interesting data at √s = 19.4GeV from FNAL [1] and for π production at √ s = 200GeV from BNLRHIC [2]. We wi...

Polarized Drell-Yan at COMPASS-II: Transverse Spin Physics Program

Successful realization of polarized Drell-Yan physics program is one of the main goals of the second stage of the COMPASS experiment. Drell-Yan measurements with high energy (190 GeV/c) pion beam and transversely polarized NH3 target have been initiated by a pilot-run in the October 2014 and will be followed by 140 days of data taking in 2015. In the past twelve years COMPASS experiment perform...

On Some New Ideas in Hadron Physics

We shortly review a series of novel ideas on the physics of hadrons and nuclear matter. Despite being vastly different in scope and content, these models share a common attribute, in that they offer unconventional viewpoints on infrared QCD and nuclear phenomena. In a sense, they are reminiscent of the plethora of formulations that have been developed over the years on classical gravitation: ma...
